Incoming storm
There's a hard storm coming in tonight through to tomorrow, vast amounts of rain and very strong winds. I figured it's worth avoiding the whole thing as the North isn't so badly affected. So I spent pretty much the whole day driving around to Akureyri.
It was a really pretty route, including a really long tunnel, sweeping hills, ice capped mountains in the distance. I stopped a few times asking the way.
Þrístapar was memorable. I was drawn in by the friendly horses people were petting.
Across the road though there was a more sinister story told through a sequence of plaques. It told the story of a murder and subsequent execution of the perpetrators, the last in Iceland's history. The site was where they were beheaded for their crimes. Chilling stuff for sure.Anyway I eventually make it to the lovely camping Hamar. I went for a little stroll, following a good frisbie course (yes really). To tired to do much more today.
Think I'll go on a hike in the area tomorrow and stay another night, I found a map showing several paths.
