Waterfalls and East

I decided it's time to head East, the weather to the North wasn't looking great and nothing seemed sufficiently enticing.

I did think it with making a detour to see the Dettifoss waterfall as people were talking highly of it on the bus yesterday.  This is formed by the same glacial river we drove alongside yesterday to Askja.  Its source is further south at the great Vatnajökull glacier, by far the biggest glacier in Iceland.

It was really thundering away, it was drizzling a bit but most of the water is spray kicked up by the waterfall.  This can get even more crazy, sometimes they have glacial floods where a volcano melts an ice dam resulting in an enormous surge of water.  That would be terrifying to watch I should think!

I then headed east towards the coast which was a pretty journey when you could see past the clouds at least.  There were more waterfalls to see asking the way, now feeding into a different river.

On arrival it got a bit stressful, my car has nearly run out of charge then the charger didn't work and I spilt some instant noodles I was eating for lunch oh noes!

There were a bunch of show chargers by Vof baths just it off town so I figured I'd go there and try and chill whilst the car charges.

The baths were pricey but amazing.  As seems the norm in Iceland they were outdoors but with the twist of being embedded in the edge of a lake.  They had three pools of varying temperatures, and you could take a dip in the actual lake which isn't heated! It's probably about 13 Celsius.

After a while I took a dip in the lake, yikes it's cold! You can just jump in the hot pool afterwards though.  Eventually I got the nerve to do the short swim in the lake around the edge of the pool, twice!

I stayed a good while the headed to the camp which happens to be next door to the charger which was now vacant and worked when I went to to up.  This camp is rather nice and well.

So a bit of stress but all's well that ends well.
